Three World Known Companies Plan to Start New Acrylic Acid Project

CHEMMONITOR.COM – The Denmark-based biotech company Novozymes, German chemical producer with headquarters in Ludwigshafen, BASF SE, and the US-based firm Cargill will cooperate in producing acrylic acid. The companies will utilize renewable feedstock while manufacturing the product.

The Danish and US producers already worked in coordination to find out microorganisms converting renewable raw material in 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP).

In this collaboration, BASF SA intends to change 3-HP into acrylic acid.

Acrylic acid throughput in the world market totals over 4.4 million tons annually.
