CHEMMONITOR.COM - Arkema, a France-based company and Europe’s most significant producer of phthalate plasticizers, is to shut down its production unit in Chauny (France).  The upcoming closure is caused mainly by the increasing tendency to use nonphthalates in the production of PVC for medical applications. Moreover, the PVC sector in Europe suffers from ongoing structural weakness.

The firm’s France-based facility manufactures 70,000 tonnes of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and 90,000 tonnes of phthalic anhydride plasticizer annually.
