CHEMMONITOR.COM - Brussels-based trade association, European Plastics Converters (EuPC), supported the EC in terms of plastics waste. EuPC criticizes the bioplastic industry while considering problems of littering, especially when it is associated with short-life plastic carrier bags.

Meanwhile, the trade group claim bio-based plastic shopping bags to be more sustainable than oil-based bags. Such factors as resources used in the production, end of life solutions, including land-use and water consumption are significant when considering the sustainability of some material.
