Steel Industry in EU Needs Qualitative Changes

CHEMMONITOR.COM - The European steel industry is facing such challenges as high costs for energy, climate legislation regarding the laws and regulations of greenhouse gas emissions, trade restrictions and research and development.

The EC is willing to take some actions to make steel sector in Europe competitive and sustainable. The need to concentrate on the high prices for energy runs through the parliament’s report like a red thread.

Prices for energy in Europe can easily account for about 40% of the overall values in the steel sector. The steel industry is potentially a sector, which can contribute into the reduction of EU emissions.
